Box of Rocks

Another theme from Expo 2020 was use of natural construction materials, in this case the Terra exhibit had a box of rocks walls. Certainly we've all seen this construction before in ultra modern homes or commercial buildings, retaining walls or such. But I had an interesting conversation with an architect from Poland about why this is a method who needs to be utilized more often - insulation (heating and cooling), less processing of materials, expandability and ability to evolve the structure, ability to earth scape it and grow inside the rocks. This could truly become a living structure.

The Expo 2020 'city' will morph into a live-work-play community in the coming years. The plan is to convert many of the existing buildings to useable housing, retail and office when the show closes next month.
