Rooftop Pools: Decadent, yes. Lovin' it.


I spent a couple hours working from my laptop on the rooftop of the Sixty Hotel on Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills last week. The weather was a chilly 52 degrees and windy, but for a Michigander in January... this was bliss! Who ever thought of putting the first pool on the roof of a building was both crazy and brilliant. The Detroit Athletic Club has an upper floor pool, and when dining in the lower floors you often wonder what the ceiling caving in might do to your dinner.


Either way, in the modern urban built environment we sometimes overlook the engineering needed to support this much water 16 stories about the ground. Thank you architects and engineers, I appreciate you!
