In 2017, the Congress of New Urbanism gathered in Detroit for its annual conference. Days before, as part of the conference, a few days before, some of the most talented urban designers in the WORLD met in downtown Pontiac to study the Phoenix Center area.
This involved community meetings, thought leader groups, surveys, design teams and deep dives into data. I was honored to be a (very small) part of this process and program.
The result is an in-depth study and plan for redeveloping this neighborhood and the former 2,600 car parking deck, as well as the 2 Ottawa Towers, Phoenix Tower senior housing building, 140 S Saginaw and the adjoining properties.
